Wilbraham Arms

Featured in The Sentinel, Summer 2010

February 2010 marked the 30th anniversary of trading. This coincided with a large investment from proprietors Roy and Sharon Potter to renovate and update the facilities to a beautiful finish. Roy and Sharon have been at the helm of the business for almost 15 years and with almost 40 years experience between them, they recognised the potential of the Wilbraham’s which will justify their significant investment to date. Roy explained "The licensed trade is currently going through a very tough period, but having built up a strong relationship with Robinsons the brewers over the past 25 years, Sharon and I share their belief that now is the right time to invest for the future by providing the very best in facilities for our customers. We feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to jointly invest in this project with Robinson’s and setting a new standard for others to follow.”
At the Wilbraham’s the new contemporary look has transformed this country pub on the outskirts of Alsager into something quite special. The smart venue nestles on what was once the site of ‘Creswell Farm’ where on arrival customers now drive alongside a beautifully landscaped garden with rich colourful planting where trees and shrubs surround the very attractive ‘Al Fresco’ dining area. This impressive building has a welcoming entrance through a newly constructed oak porch. The front doors lead into a wood panelled lobby where there is a tiled floor and comfortable leather sofa and coffee table. Throughout the project there has been similar attention to detail with a pallet of colours and the use of materials and textures to provide a real feel of taste and quality. On entering the lounge there is a light and airy feel to the surroundings where oak floors surround the newly formed bar. There is also a fabulous Scandinavian wood burning stove to provide a real focus for those cosy winter nights. The addition of summer doors leading to the outside dining area have efficiently improved access. There is also an oak-built shelter provided for customers who wish to smoke where heaters and seating are provided for their comfort.
The work on the well run pub has been all encompassing with even the ladies and gents facilities having set new standards. "It’s like walking into a 5star hotel. We provide bespoke hand soap & moisturiser and have the most powerful hand dryers imaginable,” says Roy. As part of the inspiring project the conservatory has also been the subject of a major make-over with timber and Roman blinds to the windows and new decorative features. To further complement this fabulous looking eatery a new menu awaits with all that is traditional, including their famous Steak & Kidney Pie cooked in Robinson’s ale, fresh Italian Pasta with Chorizo in a Tomato and Basil sauce, and delicious homemade chips!
Roy and Sharon have also invested in a stunning granite topped carvery counter and a chilled salad bar that sits perfectly adjacent to the conservatory restaurant to provide the perfect Sunday lunch for any diner. There are plans to further develop this new feature so check out their newly launched website for more details, menu updates, voucher offers and details of forthcoming promotional events on It would be easy to write more flowery adjectives to describe the wonderful new Wilbraham Arms but your best bet is to visit them and see for yourself
